Frequently Asked Questions

What is an MFT intern?

An MFT (Marriage and Family Therapy) intern is a graduate-level clinician who has completed their coursework and is providing therapy under the supervision of a licensed therapist while completing the hours required for licensure. Interns are not independently licensed. At Embraced Therapy, our intern, Jen Young, is supervised by founder Angela Shelley, LMFT, who provides ongoing consultation, ethical guidance, and clinical oversight without becoming the client’s therapist.

Do intern sessions cost less?

Working with a supervised intern can provide a more accessible-fee option for clients seeking thoughtful, relationship-centered care. Rates and availability vary by clinician and will be confirmed during the consultation process.

Who can I work with at Embraced Therapy?

You can work with Angela Shelley, LMFT, our founder and clinical lead specializing in couples and sex therapy, or with Jen Young, MFT Intern, who offers accessible-fee therapy for individuals, couples, and families. Sharon Thompson, our Office Manager, is your first point of contact to help you get matched and scheduled.
